Massimiliano Di Ventra, Professor of Physics at the UCSD, and co-founder of MemComputing received the 2020 Foresight Institute Feynman Prize for Theory. Professor Di Ventra has made major contributions to several areas of nanotechnology and condensed matter theory:
- He pioneered the study of quantum transport in nanoscale and atomic systems from first principles.
- He developed novel theoretical and computational techniques, and predicted several nanoscale phenomena that have been later verified experimentally.
- He suggested the quantum sequencing approach to detect and differentiate DNA bases in nanochannels using quantum tunneling for precision medicine.
- He proposed the concept of memcomputing (computing in and with memory), and spearheaded the study of memory effects in materials and devices for a wide range of applications.
